Millitary hospital

Basic Information

The military hospital is situated in a former military fortress Josefov built in 1780-1789. All buildings are deserted, unused, and dilapidated. On the east side the historical building of hospital (with extensive park courtyard) is adjacent to premises with engineering facilities- a boiler house, garages, storehouses, sheds- that are completely derelict and have no architectural and historical value. Territorially, the premises are related to the premises Square (Artillery) Barracks.

Suggested Use

The hospital building itself is suitable for rather non-residential purposes - civil facilities (health care, education, science, culture), administrative purposes (including specific types such as an archive, museum depository and exhibition space, offices, trade and services), and possibly accommodation purposes (hotel, apartment hotel, guest-house, dormitory); social care may also be considered an option. The courtyard should remain green area and area for recreational activities. It is necessary to remove useless and derelict engineering facilities of the hospital (the boiler house, garages, sheds). After demolition it is suggested to create concourse there (small square) with greenery and parking lot.

Existing Limits and Restraints

The object is an immovable national monument. Urban conservation area. There is a part of a secondary hygienic water protection zone in the area.

The premises are a part of a protected area of natural water-storage ‘East Bohemian Cretaceous Formation’ and located in Natura 2000 protected zone.

Jaroměř town is located circa 17 km north of the regional capital, circa 19 km southwest of Náchod and circa 120 km northeast of Prague. The altitude is 254 m above sea level, the area is 2 395 ha, number of inhabitants: 12 767 (on January 1st, 2006). It is an important transfer nod (road and railway).
