Basic Information

The area of Retranchement No XVIII includes 7 buildings of the former artillery laboratories. The buildings are deserted and not being used at the moment and need a general reconstruction. The premises will undergo a reconstruction in 2008-2009 in order to build multifunctional premises providing services for the tourists and for the inhabitants to spend their leisure time. The project solves the problems of creating accommodation capacity, finishing the communications, building sanitary facilities for tourists and public, providing basic information services, and adapting the historical buildings to their new function. There will be 20 parking places build and the first building will be reconstructed to become a reception with an office and information centre of the area. Part of the buildings on the premises will be reconstructed and changed into accommodation, which will be in the category of a boarding house, with circa 30 beds. The rest of the buildings will be transformed into buffet, sanitary facilities and technical facilities for the maintenance service. The fortification element (caponiera) will create a natural amphitheater with a capacity of circa 150 places. The premises is surrounded with the wall of the moat.

Suggested Use

The owner of the premises, Jaroměř town, is looking for an entrepreneur for this tourist area, who will provide all supposed functions of the premises - accommodation, buffet, cultural events, and connection to the guided tours.

Existing Limits and Restraints

The property is an immovable cultural monument and it is a part of the town monument reservation (MPR). It is located on the territory of suggested European important locality “Josefov – fortress” of the system Natura 2000.

There is a hygiene zone of drinking water sources protection level II interfering with the premises. The premises is located on the territory of protected area of natural water accumulation (CHOPAV) “East bohemian chalk”.

Jaroměř town is located circa 17 km north of the regional capital, circa 19 km southwest of Náchod and circa 120 km northeast of Prague. The altitude is 254 m above sea level, the area is 2 395 ha, number of inhabitants: 12 767 (on January 1st, 2006). It is an important transfer nod (road and railway).
